Matthew engages with the wider design and business community through panel discussions, workshops and public speaking at events such as V&A Creative Quarters and MUXL. He regularly provides comment/opinion pieces for the international design and business press including FastCo, Wired, Dezeen and Design Week. He helps judge design/innovation awards including the D&AD Awards in 2018 and was on the steering group for the 2017/18 Cannes Lions Awards.

 
 

Dezeen panel discussion

Matthew recently created and hosted a panel discussion in collaboration with Dezeen, the world’s most influential architecture, interiors and design magazine and panelists from Samsung, IKEA, Google ATAP and Nest. They explored opportunities and challenges of our future smart home powered by emerging technology.

Design Week asked Matthew for his thoughts on the announced departure up Jony Ive from apple. “End of an era, no doubt. Like Braun after Dieter Rams, IBM after Richard Sapper and Pentagram after Kennith Grange it will be interesting to see how Apple moves on from such an iconic designer.”

V&A workshop

Matthew was at the Victoria & Albert Museum for Creative Quarter, a careers event for 13-19 year old students. He ran a taster creative workshops, design your career drop in sessions and gave a talk about product design and the emerging creative roles in an increasingly interconnected physical and digital world.
